Parents: The DeKalb County Board of Education (BOE) is considering changes to the DCSD policy on school-related fundraising. Changes to the current policy could affect what is permissible, how approval takes place, and how organizations such as PTA/PTSAs, School Foundations, and other organizations go about doing fundraising. New changes could also impact the evolving arena of crowd-sourcing in schools through vehicles such as (for example) Go Fund Me.
The DeKalb BOE and School District are seeking parent and community stakeholder input on the new proposed policy. Please see below for an invitation to comment from the DCSD Chief Communications & Community Outreach Officer. The message provides links to the proposals being considered. When you open those links, you’ll see the draft policy as well as a comment box where you can submit comments.
Comments can be submitted through June 30, 2017. This issue will be discussed during the July 10th Board of Education meeting.
Organizations and individuals may want to consider how this policy would affect your current school-related fundraising activities, and communicate what is most important to you in fundraising policies as the BOE moves forward with consideration of this issue.
Thanks, Peachtree Gateway Council on Schools (serving Region 1 – Chamblee, Dunwoody, Cross Keys clusters)
